I spent a night at K. prefecture Self Defense Force Base in 2002. I met some female soldiers there and was permitted to video them. The number of women in SDF is increasing as recession in rural area continues and young girls have difficulty finding decent jobs. The women I met there are not nationalist right wingers. They are there to do their job. Now the new prime minister of Japan is eager to change the constitution so that Japan can have a proper army (article 9 prohibits Japan to have any kind of armed force, SDF is supposed to be only for self defense). In that case, these women can be deployed to go to Iraq and kill and get killed.
Another part of this video is from Okinawa, where most of the island is still occupied by US military base. Along the main highway, all you can see is a beautiful beach on one side and US base on the other. Tens of thousands of islanders got killed during the Battle of Okinawa, by both US and Japanese military. There are still many cases of rapes and murders perpetrated by US military personel there.
