Procreation/Postcreation presents thematic works from individuals and groups from across the globe. An open call for participation was circulated via email and personal networks, and responses were mostly received digitally. It was a form of a mail art project using the Internet.
In this project, we have collected and documented personal stories, old and new beliefs and tales, medical facts, sayings, advice, taboos, recipes, lullabies, poems and so on, and, at the same time, explored old and new myths surrounding both pro and post creation and how these myths have influenced our thinking in the past and, continue to do so today and into the future.
The compilation of works built up over a period of a year and then the decision was made to design the publication in the form of a box to contain the works printed on individual sheets of paper. The project was launched on 11 November 2003 at Pridi Banomyong Institute, Bangkok, and along with exhibiting the contents of the box and installing videos, some artists presented performances in the evening.
87 artists and non-artists, male and female, have contributed texts, performances and/or images for Procreation/Postcreation.
